Popularly known as P.C.Sorcar of Karnataka, S.P. NAGENDRA PRASAD is a man with a mission. Incorporating social issues with the help of magic he tries to put a across to the audience the message of a cleaner and greener Bangalore.
For S.P. NAGENDRA PRASAD magic has always been in his blood. Being born to a family of renowned magicians he took interest in this art at a very early age. He toured India assisting his father Dr.S.C. Pandu Ranga Rao, former President of the Karnataka Branch of All India Magic Circle and It was only in the early 80's that he took it on as a career of his own. For Magician Nagendra Prasad, his break came in 1982 at the Jagan Mohan Palace at Mysore after which there was no looking back.
With a host of shows to his credit ranging from stage show, clubs, corporate shows and birthday show, Mr.Prasad has the knack of keeping his audience spell bound from the commencement to the very end, throughout driving home socially relevant messages. He is known for his agility inborn sense of humour and style. He says the whole idea of incorporating magic into a programme such as Swaccha Bangalore was to target the message who do not read or understand the idea of cleanliness. Magic bring forth the element of fun, is interesting and at the same time drives home the message. When not performing Magician Nagendra Prasad innovates new tricks for his forth-coming shows.
Like all successful men Mr. Prasad attributes his success to his wife Smt. Bharathi. After 13 years of marriage the couple were blessed with a baby boy. He is all of one year and 10 months and is already a chip of the old block. He enjoys entertaining his parents.
The best word to describe Magician Nagendra Prasad's magic would be "innovative" and "creative" with a distinctive style which he calls his own he has a Pandora's box of illusions and tricks, some of which ARE the famous Hondini box escape, 3 ghosts from Japan and the Rocket illusion just to name a few. The audiences are always left spell bound with his tricks of illusion where two young women visit space and come back, the zig zag lady who is cut into three pieces or even the one in which a lady is cut into two with an electric saw from the "floating lady" to "Feats of X-ray eyes" to producing elephants from thin air and converting horses to camels-he has done It all.
He has to date over 2000 shows all over India to his credit. But the one that is most dear to his heart ARE his shows that are concerned with social awareness. Recently along with the Bangalore Mahanagara Palike he aimed at conveying the message of a cleaner greener Bangalore through the medium of magic. Proper disposal of garbage, health hazards of unclean areas and garbage segregation were illustrated very innovatively ans effectively through thematic magic performances. Mr Prasad has performed for Doordarshan and his work has been appreciated by great grand masters like Prof. P.C.Sorcar (Junior) who called him as "the most outstanding Magician of Karnataka".
As far as his future plans ARE concerned the list as endless. He now plans to spread the message even further and this time he has decided to target the street and rural children, and patients to instill in them positive attitude to target in life. He has planned to host a special show for prisoners in the hope of helping change their attitude. Down the years, he plans to open up a trust for orphans in order to give them basic needs, proper education and install in them qualities which will help them to be better citizens.
Magic according to Mr. Prasad is nothing but and illusion using science psychology, miss-direction, special lighting effects, acting use of specially designed props and theoretical set eyes and the sleight of hands-and this is modern magic.
He believes that magic has the element of essence that if applied creatively and intelligently Can be used to mould society, family members, your neighbors into more aware and caring citizens. He dreams of a better, cleaner and peace loving India. Magic is nothing but a combination of tricks illusions and hypnotism. As far today yet again his quest to educate the masses and in his humble drive for a better and cleaner Bangalore.
Mr. Prasad will be conducting a special magic show incorporating his skills talent and his keen sense of humour to bring about an awareness of the ill effects of smoking and even worse effects of passive smoking among users. He also aims to convince officials to turn all public places, parks and horticultural environments like Cubbon Park and Lalbagh into no smoking environments. (zones).
